SAS Fan Dance Challenge

The SAS Challenge is a gruelling 24km non-navigational race over two sides of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons. This infamous route has long been a part of SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service) Selection and is considered the yardstick of a candidate’s potential to perform well on Test Week and ultimately pass the Special Forces Selection programme.

The route is a real lung buster that throws everything at you, including the elements. There are steady slopes that allow a solid jogging pace, shocking inclines that have you almost on your hands and knees, loose stone tracks that require cautious foot placements and a forested vehicle track that allows for some rapid going. Even SAS recruits at the height of their physical abilities regard beating the clock in this event as a serious challenge, and all know its capacity to hurt.

As per real Special Forces Selection, the event will be staged in both summer and winter loadbearing weighing 35lb (excluding food water) and wearing long trousers with ‘military style’ boots. Competitors rucksacks will be weighed before and after the race, by race officials.

About Me

Hi, Thanks for visiting my Blog.

My aim is to complete four challenges ( 3 Parachute Regiment Challenges and one SAS based Challenge) during 2013 to raise funds for RMHB. The details of this can be found on the blog link within this page. Please take time to read it and hopefully follow the my blog to keep upto date with my training and challenge endevours.

Ronald McDonald House, Bristol is an independent charity which provides Home from Home accommodation, free of charge, to the families of critically ill children receiving care at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. When a child is very ill, they may need to travel away from home to receive the treatment that they require.

Their aim is to keep families together during what is probably one of the most stressful times of their lives. Bristol is the only dedicated children’s hospital in the whole of the South West of England and Wales which means RMHB support families across the entire region.
