Summer Lung Buster Details

I have three Para’s 10 Challenges this year and one SAS Style Challenge

The Parachute Regiment challenges you to attempt the 10 Mile ‘P’ Company Cross Country Route, carrying a bergen (rucksack) weighing 35lb (excluding food water) and wearing long trousers with ‘military style’ boots. Competitors rucksacks will be weighed before and after the race, by race officials.

The Route: A multi-terrain endurance event, the race will follow the same route as the 10 mile run. There will be water stations located along the route and at the start and finish. The First Aid Station will be located at Race Control with a roving back up facility. NB. The route is not suitable for wheelchairs.

As a guide the Paratroopers P Company Selection cut off time is 1 hr 50 minutes and the TA Paratroopers Selection time is 2hrs.

My aim :

Aldershot – 11am Saturday 9th March – 2hrs 15 – 2hrs 30 mins
Colchester – 11am Saturday 6th July – Under 2hrs
Catterick – 11am Saturday 8th September – under 1hr 50 mins

The SAS Challenge is a gruelling 24km non-navigational race over two sides of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons. This infamous route has long been a part of SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service) Selection and is considered the yardstick of a candidate’s potential to perform well on Test Week and ultimately pass the Special Forces Selection programme.

The route is a real lung buster that throws everything at you, including the elements. There are steady slopes that allow a solid jogging pace, shocking inclines that have you almost on your hands and knees, loose stone tracks that require cautious foot placements and a forested vehicle track that allows for some rapid going. Even SAS recruits at the height of their physical abilities regard beating the clock in this event as a serious challenge, and all know its capacity to hurt.

As per real Special Forces Selection, the event will be staged in both summer and winter loadbearing weighing 35lb (excluding food water) and wearing long trousers with ‘military style’ boots. Competitors rucksacks will be weighed before and after the race, by race officials.
